Rambling Thoughts No. 1 - Traffic

Remember this is just rambling thought.
Traffic in India especially in Jaipur:
On Indian road, MIGHT is right. When will it improve??? I think the main reason being that we (by we, I mean Indian drivers) are not fully aware of the Traffic rules and regulations and also that we don't really care about other people. When will we learn that the main road and straight roads has priority over the small lanes? We just shoot out from a side road to a main road without bothering to look.
Roundabouts and traffic lights: We really don't understand that you need to give way to the vehicles on your right. Sometimes I am forced to stop at a roundabout because some cars or bikes were coming too fast from the left.
On the most part, we do understand about the traffic light, but there are still some people who really are in a hurry and can't wait for the light to turn green. And well, if the clock countdown reach 4 seconds, you can start going!! Like the 4 seconds is really going to help you get to your destination faster!

The policemen don't seem to be bothered by anything. They do have their drive sometimes, but only for show, in my opinion. Two wheelers without helmet, no seat belt, etc. There are discriminations here as well. If you are a politician or know a politician, or high ranking government officer, then the rules don't apply. And another thing: I don't think the policemen themselves knows and underdstand the traffic rules, at least not all of them.

Parking: We absolutely have no manners when it comes to parking, especially in a place where parking spot is limited. You will see some cars are parked taking two parking areas, just right in the middle.
What about when you are just standing there trying to get the spot that has just been vacated- giving way for the car to move out and wham! another car goes round behind you and take that spot, eventhough you indicated that you are intending to park there.

Highways and Roads with lanes:
I do realise that it is still a bit difficult inside a city area to really follow the lane rules as there are lots of bikes and scooters zig zag-ging. But, there are still some cars who prefer to take two lanes, which I personally think is very selfish of them.
Trucks and buses are still going on the fast lane, which is not allowed in most countries.

Can we get past the nightmare of driving in Indian roads and be civilised to other drivers by being considerate?

The thing called "Contact Lens"

I am one of those unfortunate people who cannot see clearly, and therefore need spectacles or lens to see. I have been using spectacles for approximately 10 years or so. During those time, I tried to use contact lens from time to time. And I am not ashamed or afraid to admit that I never could get the hang of it.

I still need to use contact lens from time to time when I either break or lose my specs.
Most of the time, I end up with red eyes and tears running down my face. Don't get me wrong, I do get them in, sometimes even fairly easy with not much tears. And of course very rarely, at the first try.

I even went as far as to shamelessly admit it to my optician that I don't know how to put the lens in!! He very kindly showed me how to do it properly. Even after that, I still don't get it. I thought I did everything the same, but it's the same sad story again, tears running down my cheeks.

I know everything theoretically, put the lens onto the tip of forefinger, open eyes wide with middle finger and the other hand; bring the forefinger to the eye, just touching the eye; then leave the lens, look down, take the middle finger, then take the other hand away, that should do it.
But the lens always get folded somewhere or, some air trapped in it, etc. etc. and so on.
I have heard that some people don't even need a mirror, they just do it. Why can't I be among those people?
Is there anyone out there who's got the same problem as me? Any suggestion at all would be welcome.

IF

If I'm gone....would anyone really misses me? May be somebody will, for a period. But I will soon be forgotten. There's life to live, people counting on you, money to be earned for a living and so on.

If I asked you point blank if you are going to miss me after I'm dead, the answer will always be 'Of course, we will miss you.' But will you really?

Think about it. How many of your friends have you lost or how many family members? Even someone you've known but not particularly a friend or a relative. And how many do you still miss? Oh you've thought about them every now and then, when something happens that makes you think of them. If you are honest, that's not much, I mean the time that you thought about them.

Sometimes I wish I could live forever, but then another thought enters. I would be bored to death watching the youngsters live their lives and old ancient me not really knowing what's going on anymore

My Top Worst TV Advertisements

Here I am, sitting down after a long hot day in Rajasthan....trying to wind down by watching TV. Every 2 minutes I have to endure those commercial breaks. And some of them really turned me off the product they are trying to advertise altogether.

Here's a few of the ads which really get me that I really really have to switch over to another channel (I don't really like to change channels when I'm watching a program in case I miss something)
  1. Bru Cappuchino / Bru Cold Coffee: Am I supposed to like those ladies with froth on their lips? Do they really think that will sell? Or may be they think that moustache on girls will be in fashion!!!
  2. Foster (The one with Belly Dance): It starts off with "How to speak Australian?" And then they showed audience in a stadium shouting "Ogi Ogi Ogi Oye oye oye"; which is as Welsh as you'll ever get. I do wish the ad exec will do their research properly. May be they think noone will know.
  3. McDonald's (with the guy as steward): That guy with all the nose ring and his Coke Addict face is supposed to make me want to eat at McDonald's???? Seriously??? I don't think so. Seriously.
  4. Dish TV (with all the family): "Iske lagala toh life jinga la la" OK I really don't know what bugs me with this one, except that I can't stand it.
  5. Matrix (with the loo): "You are pissing away precious money" with the background noise of someone pissing??? Need I say more?
  6. Matrix (all those featuring the same fat guy): What do they really see in that guy? His face was enough to make me switch channels not to mention his speaking and acting.
  7. All the Liqour ads using CDs or Bottled water or Holiday as the front: OK so you are not allowed to advertise...so why do it?

I could go on and on......

And what about Shah Rukh Khan in every second ad? I can't keep up with what he's advertising at all.

Saying that, there are quite a few tasteful ads around...but for me nothing beats the good old days and the likes of Red Cow and Washing Powder Nirma.

Holi

Holi's here again and gone again now.....

Neighbours dropped by to throw dye at us and the whole house has been coloured. Even the baby got some colour.

I've been a little nostalgic today, remembering 'the Holi' in Hyderabad. We were just young kids that time, still in college; the year Eli had a house just outside the hostel gate. Our friends dropped by with you know what and got wasted; we all had a laughing fit. Some because of you know what and some because they were soooo funny.

What a time!!!! Those were the days when we had no responsibility and can do whatever just because we can.

Now that time has gone, each of us are so busy with life and responsibility that we no longer had time to talk to each other, or find out about the others. I wish I could go back to that time.

New Member of our family

Here I am, contracting......God!!! That was painful.

After 36 hours of contraction and 105 minutes of pushing, here she comes........

The first feeding, skin to skin contact......

24 hours old, and all she wants is breastmilk. She is already the big boss of the family. Everyone runs around when she makes even a tiny sound.

She's still cute even after nine days!!! :) I am sooo proud of her.
